BASILICA EXTERIORS The Basilica construction started in 1228, just two years after Saint Francis' death. The white-pink stone of Mount Subasio creates a wonderful chromatic effect. The church has a T-shape plant. |

LOWER BASILICA The shape is in Romanico-Lombardo style, with a single aisle. Since 1230, the spoils of Saint Francis are fostered here. The Lower Basilica has frescos of Giotto and Cimabue. |

UPPER BASILICA This church, in Gotico style, has frescos of Cimabue and Giotto, which painted the cycle "Stories of Saint Francis", made of 28 paintings. There are also wonderful frescos about Old and New Testament. |
